Reprisal

Israeli reprisals brought further suffering to Palestinian communities. At Qibya in the West Bank, Israeli troops killed 69 villagers and destroyed 45 houses in retaliation for Jewish deaths. Attacks and reprisals deepened hostility: the fighting had ended, but displacement, disputed rights and insecurity continued to obstruct peace.
