Revise: Aftermath of WarOn 5 July 1950, Israel’s parliament passed the Law of Return, declaring that every Jew had the right to come to Israel as an immigrant. It gave legal expression to a central Zionist aim: Israel should be a Jewish homeland where Jews from other countries could settle, especially important after the persecution and destruction of the Holocaust. The Nationality Law of 1952 provided the accompanying route to Israeli citizenship.
