Revise: The Experience of WarA professional army consists of permanent, paid soldiers who train for military service as a career. It is not a wholly new invention after 1900: Britain already possessed a professional force, and Haldane’s reforms of 1908 combined a regular army with a Territorial Force of part-time reserve soldiers. That force became the Territorial Army in 1921; the Territorial Army was renamed the Army Reserve in 2013.
