Revise: UsagePortchester was one of Britain’s twelve main prisoner-of-war depots and held up to 8,000 prisoners at one time. The keep was used by prisoners, while timber buildings within the enclosure provided further accommodation. Prisoners’ graffiti in the keep and buried traces of those timber buildings help establish how the site was used.
