Plastic surgery

Plastic surgery repairs or reconstructs damaged tissue; it is not simply surgery to alter someone's appearance. During the First World War, facial injuries created a particular challenge. Saving a soldier's life did not necessarily restore his ability to eat normally or help him return confidently to everyday life.
