Revise: Crown and ParliamentThese measures made religious conformity a condition of access to important positions and restricted the ability of Nonconformists to organise worship. However, Nonconformist communities had established strong roots during the Interregnum, and local communities were not always willing to suppress them. Passing restrictive laws did not mean that religious dissent disappeared.
