New World

Amerigo Vespucci explored the coast of South America and helped Europeans recognise that the lands across the Atlantic were not simply the eastern edge of Asia. They formed a New World, separate from the Asian lands Europeans had originally hoped to reach. His exploration also included the Gulf of Urabá in the Darién region in 1504.
