Revise: Society during the DepressionRoosevelt, the Democratic governor of New York, offered an alternative. He promised a ‘New Deal for the American people’, presenting government action and experimentation as answers to the crisis. His campaign appealed to the ‘forgotten man’: ordinary Americans who felt neglected by those in power.
