Revise: The Instrument of Government and the Major-GeneralsThe Major-Generals were formally commissioned in October 1655. The country was divided into twelve regions, each supervised by a Major-General answerable directly to Cromwell. Their rule combined two aims: protecting the regime and creating a more godly society.
