Revise: Impact of the DepressionThe Communist Party, or KPD, also gained support. Its vote rose from 10.6% in May 1928 to 13.1% in September 1930 and 14.5% in July 1932. Communists argued that the Depression demonstrated the failure of capitalism and that revolution offered the solution.

The Communist Party, or KPD, attracted workers and unemployed people who believed that capitalism had failed them. Its calls for revolution and workers’ rights offered a radical alternative to a system associated with business failures, unemployment and hardship.

Revise: The Great Depression and Nazi Electoral Success (1929–1933)The KPD offered its own response to unemployment and poor living conditions, and its growing strength alarmed many property owners, middle-class voters and conservative politicians. Nazi anti-communism appealed to people who feared losing property or facing revolutionary change. Some business owners provided financial support for the Nazi movement.
