Irish Republican Army (IRA)

The IRA campaigns of 1969–1994 brought violence into civilian life in Northern Ireland and mainland Britain. The IRA sought to end British rule in Northern Ireland and achieve a united Ireland. Unionists wanted Northern Ireland to remain in the United Kingdom.
