Revise: Letchworth Garden City, 1903 to PresentLetchworth Garden City began in 1903 as an attempt to create a healthier alternative to the industrial town. Its importance in the history of medicine lies principally in prevention: improving the surroundings in which people lived, rather than treating them only after they became ill.
Separate Howard’s intentions from achievements. Letchworth’s continuing social inequalities qualify claims that the Garden City solved urban poverty.
