Revise: Weimar DemocracyFriedrich Ebert’s government relied on the army and the Freikorps, armed groups of former soldiers, to crush the uprising. The Freikorps were fiercely anti-communist and used violent force against the revolutionaries. Luxemburg and Liebknecht were subsequently murdered by Freikorps members.
