Revise: Viking raidsBetween 793 and 850, Scandinavian raiders attacked Britain, Ireland, the Scottish Islands and Francia, which included much of modern France. A raid was an expedition to seize wealth or captives. It did not necessarily involve conquering territory: an early raiding group might arrive suddenly, plunder a coastal community and leave before defenders could gather.
