Revise: The Nature of WarfareThe snaphance, an early form of flintlock, struck sparks from flint to ignite the priming powder. During the Civil Wars, these more expensive weapons were particularly useful for sentries who might need to fire quickly. They were also useful for artillery guards, since a burning match near gunpowder supplies was dangerous.
