Paper 1
Revise: The Alliance SystemThe Entente Cordiale of 1904 was a friendly understanding between Britain and France. It settled colonial differences and included British acceptance of French interests in Morocco. This mattered because Britain and France had previously competed overseas: settling disagreements made cooperation easier.
Distinguish the defensive military alliances from Britain’s entente agreements: Britain was not automatically committed to fight alongside France and Russia.
Explain consequences through a causal link. For example, British support for France frustrated Germany’s attempt to divide them, strengthening the Entente.
