Revise: The Provisional GovernmentMembers of the Duma, Russia's parliament, established the Provisional Government, initially led by Prince Georgy Lvov. It was temporary: an elected Constituent Assembly was intended to decide Russia's future political system. Alexander Kerensky, initially Minister of Justice, became head of the government in July.
Paper 3
An elected body intended to draw up a constitution for Russia. The Bolsheviks closed it in January 1918 after failing to win a majority.
Revise: Consolidation of PowerThe Constituent Assembly was intended to be an elected body that would draw up Russia's constitution. Elections went ahead in November 1917, but they did not give the Bolsheviks a majority. The Bolsheviks gained about 25% of the vote, while the different Socialist Revolutionary groups together gained about 40%.
