Paper 3
The process of strengthening a government's hold on power and reducing challenges to its authority.
Revise: Consolidation of PowerAfter taking power in October 1917, Lenin and the Bolsheviks needed to turn their seizure of government into lasting control. They faced two connected problems: winning support within Russia and escaping the First World War, which had brought military defeat, shortages and growing hardship.
- Revise: Consolidating Power
Making control more secure by weakening opposition and strengthening the ability to enforce decisions.
