Revise: The Provisional GovernmentIn his April Theses, Lenin rejected support for the Provisional Government and called for power to pass to the soviets. The Bolshevik slogans 'Peace, Bread, Land' and 'All Power to the Soviets' connected revolutionary politics to immediate needs. Peace appealed to war-weary soldiers; bread addressed urban hunger; land appealed to peasants.

Revise: Bolshevik RevolutionAfter reaching Petrograd, Lenin announced the April Theses. These set out a new direction for the Bolsheviks, the revolutionary socialist party he led. He argued that they should give no support to the Provisional Government and should work towards a second revolution, transferring power to workers and the poorest peasants through the soviets.
Treat Lenin’s April Theses as proposals, not evidence that their aims had already been achieved.
