Command economy

The command economy helped the state redirect resources towards military needs. Military spending rose from 29% to 57% of the budget by the end of 1942. Factories prioritised tanks, aircraft, ammunition and other equipment.

The Five-Year Plans organised industrial development through a command economy. Instead of factories independently deciding what to produce, the state established priorities and production targets for a five-year period.
