Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome: a condition caused by advanced HIV infection in which damage to the immune system leaves a person vulnerable to serious infections.

Revise: Responses to diseaseSpanish influenza in 1918–19 and AIDS from the early 1980s challenged public health in Britain. Both caused fear, and both required action to prevent infection. However, the responses differed.
Support comparisons with dated examples, such as the creation of the Ministry of Health in 1919 and the national AIDS campaign in 1987.
Distinguish HIV infection from AIDS. Do not claim that the information campaign alone explains infection levels or that it ended prejudice.
