Component 1, Component 2, Component 3
Revise: Interpreting Map Types and GIS Spatial PatternsA topological map emphasises how places are connected. A transport-network diagram, for example, helps you follow a route through linked stops and identify where to change services. Lines and spacing may be simplified, so the diagram is not necessarily suitable for measuring ground distances or judging exact compass directions.
Specification 3.1 · Component 1, Component 2, Component 3
Topological maps show connections, not reliable ground distances. Do not use the length of a drawn transport line to calculate journey distance.

A map showing connections and the order of places within a network, while simplifying or distorting their distances, directions and positions.
A topological map shows how places connect within a network. Unlike a topographical map, which represents the landscape and its relief, it can distort distances, directions and shapes to make connections easier to read.
