The movement of people to live in a different place. National migration occurs within a country; international migration crosses a national border.
Revise: Processes of urbanisationNational migration takes place within a country. Rural–urban migration is an important example: people move from villages or farming areas to towns and cities. Limited rural employment, education and healthcare can act as push factors.
The movement of people from one place to another to change their usual place of residence.
Seasonal movement between areas, often to find food or more favourable climatic conditions.
Specification 5.2a · Paper 2, Paper 3
A change in where a person lives, either within a country or between countries.
Revise: City Location, Importance and Migration PatternsBoth attract migrants and have international influence, but migration affects their growth and character in different ways.
Explain migration using a linked push–pull chain, rather than simply listing reasons: drought in north-eastern Brazil can damage farming livelihoods, encouraging people to seek employment in Rio.
Natural increase means births exceed deaths, not simply that the birth rate is high. Young migrants can contribute to both migration-led growth and later natural increase.
Distinguish national migration, within one country, from international migration, across a national border.
