Latitude

Latitude is an important influence on temperature. Near the Equator, the Sun’s energy is concentrated over a smaller area. Towards the poles, it is spread over a larger area, so temperatures are generally lower.

Temperature varies with latitude. Near the Equator, the Sun’s energy is more concentrated, producing warm conditions throughout the year. Towards the poles, solar energy is less concentrated and temperatures are generally lower.

Biome patterns are connected to latitude because the amount of solar energy received varies across the Earth. Areas near the Equator are generally warmer than polar regions. This helps explain why tropical biomes are associated with warm climates, while tundra has a cold climate.
