Revise: Food Additives and Genetically Modified FoodsFood additives are ingredients added for a particular purpose, such as maintaining texture or slowing spoilage. Genetic modification changes an organism's genetic material to give it a desired characteristic. Adding a colouring to a food is therefore not the same process as genetically modifying a crop.
