Revise: ContextTwelfth Night was written around 1600–1602, near the end of Elizabeth I’s reign. Its first recorded performance took place at Middle Temple Hall in London on 2 February 1602, Candlemas, before an audience that included law students. Candlemas marked the traditional end of the extended Christmas season.
