Revise: ContextMuch Ado About Nothing was probably written in 1598 or 1599 and first printed in 1600, during Elizabeth I’s reign. It is therefore an Elizabethan play. Its setting, however, is Messina, a port city in Sicily, under Aragonese rule—not Elizabethan England.
