Component 2
Revise: Book One, Chapters 14 to 17: the exodus from LondonThe Thunder Child, a torpedo ram, charges to protect it. This type of late Victorian warship combined a reinforced ram with torpedo tubes and rode low in the water. That context makes the ship’s low silhouette and powerful forward movement meaningful: its charge turns the vessel itself into a weapon.
