Omniscient third-person narrator

The novel is written in prose and mostly follows events in chronological order. Its omniscient third-person narrator can reveal different characters’ thoughts, but much of the story is presented close to Elizabeth’s perspective. Free indirect discourse brings her reactions into the narration, encouraging readers to share her confidence, irritation and later embarrassment.
