Revise: Men and womenA modern reading of Othello as a tragedy of domestic violence brings the wives' experiences to the centre: accusations become humiliation, control and murder. Iago's manipulation remains crucial, but it succeeds through assumptions that women's sexuality belongs under male supervision. The ending can therefore expose both individual wrongdoing and a social system that leaves women vulnerable.
