Revise: Act 3Act 3 Scene 5 opens after Romeo and Juliet's wedding night. Their dawn parting draws on the tradition of the aubade: a poem or song in which lovers must separate as morning arrives. Juliet insists, “It was the nightingale, and not the lark,” because the nightingale sings at night, whereas the lark signals morning.
