Revise: Timber Fabrication and FixingsVeneering bonds a thin, attractive layer of timber over a cheaper base. The base forms the main body of the component, while the veneer provides the visible timber surface. For example, a furniture panel can have an attractive timber face without being made entirely from that timber.

Distinguish lamination, which builds up a component, from veneering, which covers a base with a thin decorative layer.
Do not confuse veneering with laminating: veneering adds a thin surface layer; laminating bonds layers together to build a component.

Veneering applies a thin layer of wood to another material. It gives the visible surface the colour and grain of the chosen veneer without making the entire component from that timber. For example, plywood can be faced with a high-quality wood veneer to improve its appearance.
