Velocity ratio

Definition

The ratio of input rotational speed to output rotational speed. For a belt drive without slipping, $\text{VR}=\frac{\text{driven pulley diameter}}{\text{driver pulley diameter}}$ .

Exam tips

Use the same units for both pulley diameters. Velocity ratio has no unit; rotational speeds are usually given in rpm.
