Revise: Finishes and TreatmentsVarnishing applies a thin, clear liquid coating to the printed paper or board, commonly using rollers or spraying in commercial production. The coating is then allowed to dry or harden. Because it is clear, the print remains visible beneath it.

Varnishing applies a clear coating over print. A gloss varnish creates a shiny appearance and can make colours appear richer; a matt varnish gives a less reflective surface. Varnish also helps protect printing from scuffing during handling and transport.
