Definition

Transmission Control Protocol: a protocol that provides reliable, ordered delivery of data, checking receipt and arranging retransmission when necessary.

TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) provides reliable, ordered delivery between the communicating devices. It divides data into numbered chunks so that the receiving device can put them back into the correct order. The receiver acknowledges receipt, and data that has not been successfully received can be retransmitted.
