A unit of data sent across a network, containing part of the transmitted data and information needed to deliver it.

Revise: LAN HardwareNetwork data travels in small units called data packets. The switch receives packets, identifies the intended device and forwards them through the appropriate connection. It does not simply send every packet to every connected computer.
Describe the task of the hardware, not just its name: for example, a switch forwards data packets to the intended device.
