A small, very fast storage location inside the CPU that temporarily holds information needed during processing.
For a register question, state both its purpose and what it stores. PC and MAR store addresses; MDR and ACC store contents rather than addresses.
You need to know register purposes, but not the detailed sequence of transfers between registers at each stage of the fetch-execute cycle.
