Secondary coil

The primary coil is the transformer’s input and the secondary coil is its output. For a transformer treated as perfectly efficient, the electrical power input equals the electrical power output.

A transformer has a primary coil, connected to an alternating supply, and a secondary coil, connected to the output circuit. Both are wound around an iron core. Iron is useful because it is easily magnetised.
