Reaction profile

A reaction profile, also called an energy level diagram, shows how energy changes as a reaction proceeds. Its vertical axis represents energy, while its horizontal axis represents progress of reaction. Moving from left to right means moving from reactants towards products, not measuring elapsed time.

A reaction profile shows energy on the vertical axis and progress of reaction on the horizontal axis. The horizontal axis is not time: it represents the change from reactants to products.
