Revise: Immune System and DefencesThe body’s first line of defence reduces the chance of pathogens entering and causing an infection. It includes physical barriers, which block, trap or remove pathogens, and chemical defences, which act chemically against them.
Distinguish physical barriers from chemical defences: mucus traps pathogens and cilia move it, whereas lysozymes and hydrochloric acid act chemically.
