Revise: Immune System and DefencesLysozymes are enzymes found in tears. They break down and kill bacteria on and around the eyes. This is a chemical defence rather than a physical barrier because the enzyme acts chemically on the bacteria.
Distinguish physical barriers from chemical defences: mucus traps pathogens and cilia move it, whereas lysozymes and hydrochloric acid act chemically.
