Fertiliser

Fertilisers supply mineral nutrients to crops. Fertiliser that plants have not absorbed can be washed from fields into waterways by rain. Although these nutrients help crops grow, too much in a river or lake can cause rapid growth of algae.

Farmers can replace the lost nutrients with fertilisers.
