Paper 1, Paper 2
Nutrient enrichment of water that causes excessive growth of algae and plants and can lead to oxygen depletion and loss of aquatic organisms.
Revise: Human Impact and BiodiversityWater pollution: waste and uneaten food can enrich the water with nutrients, contributing to eutrophication.
For eutrophication, state that decomposing bacteria use dissolved oxygen during aerobic respiration. Do not simply say that fertiliser poisons the fish.
When discussing fish farming, balance reduced pressure on wild fish stocks against risks such as disease, escapes and eutrophication.
