The principle that, in a closed system, total momentum before an event equals total momentum after the event.

Revise: Conservation of MomentumIf the two totals are approximately equal across the trials, the measurements support conservation of momentum. The joined vehicles move more slowly than vehicle 1 did initially: the same total momentum is now carried by a larger moving mass.

The total momentum of a system remains constant when there is no resultant external force acting on it.
