Paper 1, Paper 5
A military emblem carried by a Roman army unit, representing its identity and honour.
Revise: RomeIt was found at the villa of Livia, Augustus’ wife, at Prima Porta on the Via Flaminia. Its name therefore identifies its findspot, not a public square in central Rome. It is commonly understood as a copy of an earlier bronze statue associated with the recovery of Roman standards in 20 BC, although the original statue’s display location is uncertain.
- Revise: Legionary Organization and the Legionary Fortress
