Revise: RomeSaturn was believed to have ruled during the Golden Age, a mythical time of prosperity, harmony and equality. Saturnalia recalled that ideal by temporarily relaxing ordinary rules and distinctions. Its merrymaking was therefore connected to the god being honoured, rather than being separate from worship.
