Revise: Exothermic ReactionsThe temperature rise is an effect of the energy transfer. “Exothermic” does not simply mean “hot”: it describes the direction in which energy is transferred during the change.
The movement of energy from one place or set of substances to another; energy is not created or destroyed.
Use the direction of energy transfer in your answer: an exothermic reaction gives out heat energy to the surroundings.
State the direction of energy transfer: in an endothermic change, heat energy is transferred from the surroundings to the reacting substances.
