Revise: Electrolysis of AluminiumAluminium oxide is dissolved in molten cryolite. The resulting molten mixture is the electrolyte: its ions can move and carry charge. Cryolite lowers the temperature needed to keep the mixture liquid, reducing the energy needed for heating.
