Revise: Electrolysis PrinciplesThe anode is the positive electrode, so it attracts negative ions. At an electrode, an ion is discharged: it gains or loses electrons and reacts to form a product. Electrolysis is this process of using an electric current to bring about chemical change in an electrolyte; it is not simply a physical separation of the ions.
