Tall structure

A tall structure has many levels of hierarchy. It usually has a long chain of command and relatively narrow spans of control. A flat structure has few levels, a shorter chain of command and usually wider spans of control.

A tall structure has many levels in its hierarchy. For example, an employee might report to a supervisor, who reports to a manager, who reports to the owner. A flat structure has fewer levels: employees might report directly to the owner.
